News Update: Lin, Wittman, & Foote go undrafted.

leave a comment

Brian Delaney of the Ithaca Journal writes:

The Ivy League was shut out of the 2010 NBA Draft on Thursday night.

Cornell’s Jeff Foote and Ryan Wittman, and Harvard’s Jeremy Lin were considered long shots to hear their names called in one of the NBA’s two drafting rounds, and those indicators proved true.

Sixty total picks went by over the course of four-plus hours, but the Ivy League went without a player getting drafted for the 15th straight season. Penn’s Jerome Allen was drafted in the second round of the 1995 draft.

Jeff Eisenberg of Yahoo Sports thinks the Knicks would’ve been better off with Ryan Wittman over Andy Rautins:

Die-hard Knicks fans in attendance waiting more than three hours for … Andy Rautins?!? The former Syracuse star is an elite shooter, but there’s not much else he does at an NBA level. If the Knicks were going to go for a hometown kid, would they not have been better off with Cornell’s Ryan Wittman?

Columbia Athletics has a press release officially announcing the addition of Carlin Hartman to the Lions’ coaching staff.

“Carlin has East Coast roots and experience all over the country,” [Head coach Kyle] Smith said. “He is an excellent teacher and motivator and will be a real asset to our staff, especially in helping to develop our post players.”

News: Jeremy Lin reflects on workout experience, Quakers in summer league, + more.

leave a comment

The Boston Herald has a piece on a couple of area stars, including Harvard’s Jeremy Lin, who are anticipating tonight’s NBA draft.   Jeremy Lin reflects on the eight or nine workouts he participated in:

Lin has enjoyed the workouts, but joked that he’s tired of living out of a duffel bag.

“This is a crazy process,” Lin said. “I can’t wait for it to be over. …

“The best part is being able to compete and being able to show yourself in front of NBA management,” Lin said. “It’s a unique opportunity. I think the worst part of it is the constant travel and not really knowing what’s going to happen the next day.”

The Daily Pennsylvanian describes the summer activities of several members of the Quaker team.

The Red and Blue are well represented in the [Delaware County Pro-Am Men’s Basketball Summer League], with upperclassmen Jack Eggleston and Zack Rosen joining incoming freshmen Fran Dougherty, Dau Jok and Steve Rennard on team Trad Jazz and rising junior Tyler Bernardini playing on team UNUM.

“The chemistry is already there,” Jok said. “We just play hard, we play together and in a way, if you start playing like that, it’s contagious.”

The Press Sun & Bulletin notes that Binghamton will face Cornell on December 18.

The Ithaca Journal describes the future career hopes of Cornell’s Big 3.   Wittman would be okay with not getting drafted:

“I know it’s a big possibility I don’t get drafted, and that’s fine,” he said. “A lot of times it can almost be better not to get selected anyways because if you don’t get drafted you can pick a spot that would be a good situation for you.”

Steve Vesey of WETM NBC Elmira News thinks Cornell’s Jeff Foote made the right decision signing with Macabi Tel-Aviv.

It seemed like a little bit of a head-scratcher when I first heart about it, but SVE-grad & former Cornell star Jeff Foote really is making the right move by signing to play basketball overseas.

… While the European game is much different in that respect, he’ll have a chance to develop at the pro level, while making what is almost certainly much more than he would in the D-League.

VIDEO: Jeff Foote discusses Trail Blazers workout

leave a comment

Comments from Chad Buchanan, Portland’s director of college scouting:

“Cornell big man. Has kind of gotten better every year he’s been there. His team had a terrific season this year. He’s a big body, keeps his game very simple, which is something we like from those centers. Joel is kind of the same way; they keep the game real simple. Low turnover guy, low mistake guy. Not very athletic, but he’s got good lateral agility for a guy his size. I think he’ll get some looks in the second round simply because big men .. it’s hard to find big men.

Foote, Wittman to work out with Knicks today

leave a comment

TheKnicksBlog.com reports that Cornell’s Ryan Wittman and Jeff Foote will be working out with the New York Knicks today. This is the second workout for Jeff Foote.

The SBNation.com blog Posting and Toasting says,

… Oh, and I think Ryan Wittman is Randy Wittman’s son. As far as I know, neither are related to Walt Whitman. The big story here (relatively speaking) is that this will be Foote’s second visit. The call-back could mean nothing at all, but Foote is the first prospect to return for another look. Considering that he’s not mentioned at all in most mock drafts, it would be surprising if New York had genuine interest in the Cornell big man at the 38th or 39th pick. Maybe they just like him as a legitimate 7-footer against whom they can pit other prospects? Maybe he left something behind the first time he visited?

Jeff Foote tweeted yesterday,

NYC with Witt, should be a fun workout
