Cornell’s Dale is POW; Harvard’s Curry is ROW

Cornell’s Louis Dale is this week’s Ivy League Player of the Week:

Cornell senior guard Louis Dale (Birmingham, Ala.) was fantastic for the Big Red in two road wins, helping Cornell to its third straight outright Ivy League title. He averaged 18.0 points, 6.5 assists, 1.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while making 64 percent of his field goals, six-of-eight from three-point range (63 percent) and all three of his free throws. He had an amazing 13 assist, zero turnover ratio in 61 minutes and directed an offense that shot 55 percent from the floor in two wins while hitting 32 3-pointers.

Harvard’s Brandyn Curry picks up his second Rookie of the Week in a row:

Harvard freshman guard Brandyn Curry (Huntersville, N.C.) averaged 10.5 points, 5.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds in two games for the Crimson. At Penn on Saturday, he recorded a career-high nine assists with 10 points and no turnovers in a tight one-point victory. He shot 45 percent from three-point range and had a team-high 11 points Saturday at Princeton.

The honor roll included Brown’s Garret Leffelman, Columbia’s Niko Scott, Cornell’s Ryan Wittman, Dartmouth’s RJ Griffin, Harvard’s Jeremy Lin, Penn’s Jack Eggleston, Princeton’s Kareem Maddox, and Yale’s Alex Zampier.

Harvard’s Jeremy Lin is the Ivy League’s Player of the Week for the fourth time this season:

Harvard senior guard Jeremy Lin (Palo Alto, Calif.) had another stat-stuffing weekend in a pair of 20-point victories for the Crimson as he averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals despite playing just 28 minutes per game.

Harvard’s Brandyn Curry picks up his first Rookie of the Week honor:

Harvard freshman guard Brandyn Curry (Huntersville, N.C.) led the Crimson to a record-setting weekend in which Harvard recorded a pair of 20-point victories with wins over Brown and Yale. The point guard averaged 17.5 points, 5.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds while playing just 26.5 minutes per game.

The Honor Roll consisted of Brown’s Matt Mullery, Columbia’s Noruwa Agho, Cornell’s Jeff Foote, Penn’s Zach Rosen, Princeton’s Kareem Maddox, and Yale’s Michael Sands.

Cornell’s Wittman is POW, Brown’s Halpern is ROW

Cornell’s Ryan Wittman picks up his sixth POW honor:

Cornell senior forward Ryan Wittman (Eden Prairie, Minn.) averaged 25.0 points and 5.5 rebounds while hitting dagger after dagger as Cornell went on the road and won contests at Harvard and Dartmouth.

Brown’s Tucker Halpern picks up his second ROW award:

Halpern scored 11 points on three-of-four shooting from the field in Brown’s win over Penn at the Palestra, while pulling down 3 rebounds, handing out three assists and blocking three shots. With the Bears struggling in the first half against Princeton, Halpern kept the Bears in the game with 12 first half points and finished the game with six-of-eight shooting from the field with two assists and a rebound.

Others on the honor roll included Brown’s Matt Mullery, Columbia’s Noruwa Agho, Cornell’s Louis Dale, Dartmouth’s Ronnie Dixon, Harvard’s Jeremy Lin, Penn’s Zack Rosen, Princeton’s Dan Mavraides, and Yale’s Alex Zampier.

Harvard’s Kyle Casey is both ROW and POW

Harvard freshman forward Kyle Casey (Medway, Mass.) helped the Crimson to a pair of wins this weekend and several notables after defeating Yale and Brown. Harvard recorded its first Ivy weekend road sweep since the 1999-2000 season and its first road sweep of Yale and Brown since 1998-99. The Crimson also tied a program record with its ninth road victory and tied the second-best wins mark in history (17). In two games, Casey averaged 23.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 52 percent overall (13-25 FG), 67 percent from 3-point range (6-9) and 88 percent at the free throw line (15-17 FT). He had 20 points and seven rebounds at Yale and tied a career-high with 27 points to go with nine rebounds at Brown in a game in which he was 8-of-9 from the floor, 3-of-3 from deep and 8-of-9 at the free throw line.

The honor roll this week includes Brown’s Peter Sullivan, Columbia’s Niko Scott, Cornell’s Ryan Wittman, Harvard’s Christian Webster, Princeton’s Douglas Davis, and Yale’s Michael Sands.

Cornell’s Foote is POW, Harvard’s Casey is ROW

Cornell’s Jeff Foote picks up his third Ivy League Player of the Week honor, while Harvard’s Kyle Casey takes home his third Rookie of the Week honor.

On Jeff Foote:

Cornell senior center Jeff Foote (Lockwood, N.Y.) was the reason the Big Red was able to remain unbeaten in Ivy League play, dominating both Yale and Brown in double-figure wins. He averaged 16.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals while shooting 65 percent from the floor in the two victories. Foote recorded a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double aginst Yale, adding four assists, two blocks and a steal to the effort. He made 7-of-11 shots from the floor and grabbed four offensive boards. He chipped in with a team-high 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal without a turnover in Saturday’s victory over Brown. Foote made 8-of-12 field goals against All-Ivy center Matt Mullery and had three offensive boards, more than the entire Bears team (2).

On Kyle Casey:

Harvard freshman forward Kyle Casey (Medway, Mass.) made his first two collegiate starts over the weekend and averaged 10.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for the Crimson. Against Princeton, Casey logged 35 minutes and registered a game-high nine rebounds to go along with seven points, two assists and a block. The next night in a win over Penn, he had 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and a block in 34 more minutes of action. Casey leads all Ivy rookies in scoring (9.2 ppg) and rebounding (5.3 rpg).

This week’s honor roll consists of Brown’s Matt Mullery, Columbia’s Noruwa Agho, Cornell’s Louis Dale, Dartmouth’s David Rufful, Harvard’s Jeremy Lin, Penn’s Justin Reilly, and Yale’s Alexander Zampier.

Princeton’s Davis is POW; Princeton’s Hummer is ROW

Princeton gets its first Ivy League Player of the Week honors.

Princeton sophomore guard Douglas Davis (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Tigers in scoring in two road victories at Brown and Yale to help Princeton open the Ivy League season at 2-0. Davis scored 16 points at Brown, all in the first half, and added 13 at Yale while hitting on 11-of-19 field-goal attempts for a 57.9 percent clip. The sweep was Princeton’s first of the Brown-Yale trip since 2004.

A Princetonian also occupies the Ivy League Rookie of the Week spot, as Ian Hummer takes home the honors for the second time this season.

Princeton freshman forward Ian Hummer (Vienna, Va.) had his fifth double-digit scoring game of the season at Brown with 10 points and followed it with eight points at Yale as Princeton swept Brown and Yale on the road for the first time since 2004.

The honor roll this week includes Brown’s Matt Mullery, Columbia’s Noruwa Agho, Cornell’s Jeff Foote, Harvard’s Jeremy Lin, Penn’s Jack Eggleston, and Yale’s Porter Braswell.

Yale’s Zampier is POW; Harvard’s Casey is ROW

Yale’s Alex Zampier receives his second Ivy League Player of the Week honor:

After falling to Brown last Friday, Yale desperately needed a win, and senior guard Alex Zampier (East Greenbush, N.Y.) played a big role in helping to deliver it. He scored a game-high 22 points as the Bulldogs knocked off Brown 71-63 to even their Ivy record at 1-1. Nine of Zampier’s points came in the final 10 minutes of the game as Yale held off a Brown comeback. He was 7-of-15 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. In addition, he had three assists and four steals in 32 minutes. Zampier currently leads the Ivies in scoring at 18.6 points per game.

Harvard’s Kyle Casey picks up his second Rookie of the Week honor:

Harvard freshman forward Kyle Casey (Medway, Mass.) turned in a clutch performance in the Crimson’s tough road win at Dartmouth with 19 points and 10 rebounds to log Harvard’s first double-double of the season. Casey currently leads all Ivy freshman in scoring with an average of 9.7 points per game.

The Honor Roll consists of Brown’s Garrett Leffelman, Columbia’s Niko Scott, Cornell’s Louis Dale,  Dartmouth’s Robby Pride, Harvard’s Jeremy Lin, Penn’s Zack Rosen, Princeton’s Douglas Davis, and Yale’s Greg Magnano.

Cornell’s Foote is POW; Brown’s McCarthy is ROW

Cornell’s Jeff Foote receives his second Player of the Week honor this season:

Cornell senior center Jeff Foote (Lockwood, N.Y.) dominated the lane in two blowout victories, including a triumph over Columbia in the 2009-10 Ivy League opener. In just 42 minutes of court time, Foote scored 26 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, blocked two shots and had an assist and a steal. Foote made 11-of-15 field goals (73 percent) while helping Cornell to an average margin of 33 points in wins over Clarkson and Columbia. Against the Lions, Foote had 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting, and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds with two blocked shots in just 24 minutes. His sixth double-double of the year came as he also anchored a defense that allowed the visitors to shoot just 37 percent overall.In a contest earlier in the week, Foote played just 18 minutes in a tuneup against Clarkson, making 7-of-9 shots for 14 points and eight rebounds.

Brown’s Andrew McCarthy gets his second ROW honor, the fourth overall for Brown:

Brown freshman Andrew McCarthy’s (Sudbury, Mass.) inside play was the difference in the Bears’ 75-66 victory over Yale, coming off the bench to score 14 points and pull down a game high eight rebounds and handing out two assists against the Bulldogs. McCarthy had to step up with All-Ivy center Matt Mullery playing at half strength with an injury, and All-Ivy forward peter Sullivan missing the last 33 minutes of the game after being injured. McCarthy, scoring all of his points in the paint, connected on 7-of-12 field goals against Yale. Earlier in the week, McCarthy had nine points, six rebounds and four assists against Quinnipiac.

The Honor Roll this week:

Brown’s Tucker Halpern, Columbia’s Noruwa Agho, Cornell’s Errick Peck, Penn’s Jack Eggleston, Yale’s Michael Grace, Brown’s Steve Gruber.

Cornell’s Wittman is POW, Brown’s Halperin is ROW

Cornell’s Ryan Wittman is the sole Ivy League Player of the Week for the second week in a row.   This is the fifth time this season Ryan Wittman has been named a player of the week.

From the Ivy League office:

Cornell senior forward Ryan Wittman (Eden Prairie, Minn.) averaged 21.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in two big road games for the two-time defending Ivy League champions. He was the story in Cornell’s near-historic upset of No. 1 Kansas, scored 24 points, grabbing four rebounds, assisting on three baskets and stealing two passes in a 71-66 defeat at the hands of the Jayhawks. He his five 3-pointers and turned the ball over just once as the Big Red led into the final minute, nearly snapping KU’s NCAA-best 50-game home win streak. He answered that effort with 18 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal in a 71-65 victory at South Dakota.

Tucker Halpern earned Brown’s third Rookie of the Week honor.

In his first collegiate start, freshman forward Tucker Halpern (Brookline, Mass.) scored a career-high 22 points, pulled down seven rebounds, handed out six assists and made three steals in an overtime win over Wagner. His basket with 40 seconds remaining in regulation gave the Bears a two point lead. He then scored four points in overtime against the Seahawks. Halpern came back against Army by scoring 13 points, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out three assists.

This week’s honor roll includes Brown’s Andrew McCarthy, Columbia’s Noruwa Agho, Cornell’s Louis Dale, Dartmouth’s R. J. Griffin, Harvard’s Kyle Casey, Penn’s Zack Rosen, Princeton’s Patrick Saunders, and Yale’s Michael Sands.

Cornell’s Wittman is POW, Harvard’s Casey is ROW

Cornell’s Ryan Wittman is this week’s sole Ivy League player of the week:

Cornell senior forward Ryan Wittman (Eden Prairie, Minn.) became the school’s all-time scoring leader during a 3-0 week … He opened the week with a career-high 34 points, including 23 in the decisive second half, to lift a Cornell team missing two senior starters to a 71-66 victory at La Salle. He became the school’s all-time leading scorer by hitting an array of big shots and connecting on all six of his free throws in the final 30 seconds to claim the win.

Harvard freshman Kyle Casey is this week’s Ivy League rookie of the week, a second ROW for Harvard:

Harvard freshman forward Kyle Casey (Medway, Mass.) recorded career-highs in consecutive games against George Washington and Seattle with 15 and 19 points, respectively, off the bench. Against GW, Casey was 11-for-13 from the free throw line; against Seattle he was 7-for-10 from the floor.

This week’s lengthy honor roll includes Brown’s Matt Mullery, Columbia’s Brian Grimes, Dartmouth’s Matt LaBove,  Harvard’s Jeremy Lin, Penn’s Zack Rosen, Princeton’s Dan Mavraides, and Yale’s Alex Zampier.
